The Chromosphere
The Chromosphere, or “sphere of color,” is an interactive, animated LED art sculpture in the shape of a large, hollow, wire-frame sphere. The sculpture is named after the layer of the Sun’s atmosphere that is normally only visible during total eclipses as a thin rosy red colored edge.
The sculpture incorporates over 2400+ LEDs mapped on the inner surface of the sphere that animate with patterns and effects. All effects are sound-reactive, responding to sound via a microphone attached to the piece, enabling participants to affect the motion, color, and intensity of the animations with voices and other sounds. In this manner, the audience can manipulate light with sound.
