The Lighting of the Sequoias
DATES: Entire Festival, February 3 – 11, 2023
A set of 3 historic 130 year old giant sequoia trees illuminated by over 1000 feet of lighting extending all the way to the top of the tallest tree.
The giant sequoia trees of Save The Giants Park were slated to be cut down in 2016, but the Portland community came together in hopes of preserving them for generations to come. Now the trees stand as monuments to the power of collective action and each year we light them up for all to see. Arborists from Oregon Tree Care scale the massive trees to string lights all the way to the top of the tallest sequoia, over 200 feet up. With over 1000 feet of lighting donated by local hardware stores, the trees form a magical illuminated canopy, seen for miles.
