Let There Be Light
DATES: Entire Festival, February 3 – 11, 2023
ENDS: 11:00 pm
The First Presbyterian Church of Portland will be beaming light and hope into the West End neighborhood.
The First Presbyterian Church of Portland will be beaming light and hope into the West End of Portland’s downtown from the tip of its historic building’s spire, which towers 185 feet above the corner of SW 12th Ave and Adler St, to its park-like courtyard on SW Morrison. The building has been called one of the finest examples of High Victorian Gothic architecture in the state of Oregon. It has been home to the congregation since the 1880s. The Povey Brothers made all the stained glass windows for the building. It was their first commission and it was so successful that it helped them quickly become one of the most sought-after stained glass makers of the era. The impressive Dove Window, visible from SW 12th Ave, is the signature piece in this building and served as the inspiration for the congregation’s logo. The additional decorative lighting for the festival was assembled by volunteers from the congregation who want to spread light and hope to our neighbors.
